Achhadana


Cover crops on the ground or crop residues to cover the soil surface are called as achhadana. It includes paddy straw, mustard husk or groundnut husks. It provides an appropriate environment for seedlings to grow by conserving moisture and suppressing weed growth.

It has a direct effect on improving crop yield by regulating soil temperature, maintaining soil moisture and reducing evaporation (Chen et al., 2007Kader et al., 2017Tuure et al., 2021).
